BRIEF PROFILE
ALVIN GABRIEL JOHNSON, DIRECTOR, GOVERNANCE AND INSTITUTIONAL DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT – WAIFEM
Alvin G. Johnson was appointed Director of the Governance and Institutional Development Department effective January 1, 2020. He earned his Ph.D Degree in
Economics from the Lagos State University in 2021; MSc. (Merit) in International Management from the University of Liverpool in 2015; MA in Economic Policy
Management from the University of Ghana in 2006 and BSc. (Cum Laude) in Economics from the University of Liberia in 2001.
Dr. Johnson joined the Research Department, Central Bank of Liberia in 2001as a Junior Analyst and rose through the ranks to the position of Economist/Head of the Balance of
Payments Division. In 2009, he was appointed as Director for Tax Policy and Planning at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, responsible to conduct fiscal policy
research, revenue impact analysis, as well as develop tax reforms aimed at improving taxation and revenue administration in Liberia.
Dr. Johnson has attended several international and regional training courses, workshops and seminars organized by the IMF, Joint Africa Institute, African Development Bank
and WAIFEM, among others on macroeconomic and financial sector management, international trade, and balance of payments compilation, etc. Prior to joining WAIFEM,
he also lectured Economics (Intermediate Level) on a part-time basis at the University of Liberia, African Methodist Episcopal University and the Stella Maris Polytechnic
University. His area of interest includes poverty analysis, trade policy, capital flows and economic growth and development.
Dr. Johnson is married with four children.
